Kristine Capase Jastrzembska
Since 2007, practicing intellectual property law has been more than a profession—it has been my calling. I have worked across both public and private sectors, including as a patent examiner at the Latvian Patent Office, an IP specialist in the pharmaceutical industry, and an IP manager at a leading research institution.
To further deepen my expertise, I completed an internship at the European Patent Office (EPO) and received several prestigious scholarships from organizations such as the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and LifeArc-AUTM. These experiences allowed me to focus on the protection and commercialization of intellectual property, where raw ideas, like uncut diamonds, are carefully shaped into valuable, strategic assets.
I have also served as an independent expert in international IP disputes and supported startups in Switzerland and Belgium in developing and managing their IP portfolios. These diverse experiences have given me a well-rounded understanding of both the legal and commercial dimensions of intellectual property and expanded my global professional network.
What inspires me most is contributing to the process of turning innovation into impact, where ideas are protected, refined, and given the chance to shine.

Protect your Jewels - IP Glossary
Patent
A legal right that protects your invention - whether it’s a product, process, or tech breakthrough. It stops others from making, using, or selling it without your OK, usually for up to 20 years.
Trademark
Your brand’s signature - like a name, logo, or slogan. A trademark makes your business stand out and protects what makes you recognizable in the market.
Copyright
Covers creative work like code, content, music, or design. It gives you the right to control how your work is used, shared, or monetized automatically from the moment it's created.
Trade Secret
Know-how that gives you an edge - like a formula, algorithm, or strategy. It’s legally protected as long as you keep it confidential.
Industrial Design
The look and feel of a product - its shape, style, or surface features. If it's new and original, you can protect it so others can’t copy your product’s appearance.
Licensing
Letting others use your IP - such as your tech, brand, or design - under agreed terms, usually for royalties. A smart way to grow your business without giving up ownership.
Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA)
A contract that keeps shared information private. Use it when talking to investors, partners, or contractors to protect your ideas.
Freedom to Operate (FTO)
A check to make sure your product or process doesn’t accidentally infringe someone else’s patent rights. Crucial before launching in a new market.
IP Assignment
The legal transfer of IP rights - for example, when a founder assigns their invention to the company. Essential for clean ownership and future funding.
Priority Date
The official “timestamp” of your first patent filing. It gives you 12 months to expand internationally or refine your application, while keeping your original filing date as your legal starting point.

Imants Kreicbergs, Co-Owner, SubXY
We began with a consultation on trademarks, and Kristine guided us through every step – from organizing the application to monitoring the entire registration process. With her support, everything went smoothly, and we are now proud owners of the SubXY trademark.
As a small business, protecting our intellectual property is crucial, especially when collaborating with larger companies where the risks are greater. Thanks to Kristine’s professionalism and expertise, we were confidently represented and able to structure our contracts in a way that safeguarded our rights. We truly value her support.
